Personal Licence Training

APLH Personal Licence Training Course Personal licence course, also known as the “APLH” course, is the basic requirement for selling alcohol within a retail environment. By attending and passing this course you will achieve a Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders. You will be eligible to work as bar staff, event management and a whole other range of hospitality jobs. you will have the skills and qualifications to operate legally, whilst also maintaining a safe environment for their customers, employees and co-workers.

Personal Licence online Course

This means you can take the course and complete the exam from the comfort of you own home on the date you choose. Online where you will be taught online via “ZOOM” *Please Note: Virtual/Proctor Exams need to be done using a Laptop or PC (Not Smart phone or Table). Your connection internet connection connection needs to be stable.

The Personal Licence Course to hold a Personal Alcohol Licence runs over 1-day and is divided into the following units:

  • Licensing authorities
  • Personal and premises licences
  • Operating schedules
  • Permitted temporary activities
  • Unauthorised licensable activities
  • Police powers and rights of entry
  • Legal and social responsibilities of the personal licence holder
  • Illegal drugs, the effects of alcohol and disorderly conduct
  • Protection of children


1 x Theory assessment (Multiple Choice Question Paper).

This qualification is approved through the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF).

How long is the personal licence valid for?

All personal licences issued after the 1st of April 2015 run indefinitely unless cancelled, forfeited or surrendered.

Why do I need Personal Licence?

You need a personal licence to authorise the sale or supply of alcohol under The Licensing Act 2003

How is Personal Licence assessed?

At the end of the course you will be required to sit a 40-question multiple choice examination
