Upskilling Security Officer

Are you a licensed Security Officer?  Is your SIA Licence up for renewal after the 1st of October 2021?  If so, you will need to undertake the mandatory SIA Upskilling Security Officer training before your licence will be renewed.

Our Level 2 SIA – Upskilling Security Officer Course costs just £99 and is delivered over 2 days from our Approved Training Centre in London, Croydon.

Please note – You will also need a minimum of an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification to renew your licence which can be added to your booking.

Please Note – The SIA and Awarding Bodies are still finalising the “upskilling” training and the contents is subject to change before its inception in October 2021.



What this course is about:

A Security Guarding licence is required when undertaking most manned guarding activities.

Who this course is for/ entry requirements:

  • 18 years +
  • The learner must have achieved Level 3 RQF/QCF Level 6 SCQF Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification or equivalent.
  • First Aid Qualification must be valid for at least 12 months from the start date of the course.
  • Learners must be able to communicate effectively in English.

This is an essential qualification for:

  • Any SIA Security Officer license holders applying to renew their licence after the 1st of October 2021 who were trained before April 1st, 2021.
  • Anyone applying for an SIA Security Officer license after the 1st of October holding a Door Supervisors qualification from before April 1st, 2021.


  • Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry

The learner will be able to identify and recognise terror threats, common methods of attack, procedures for dealing with suspicious items, identification of suspicious behaviour and how to respond accordingly.

  • Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry

The learner will be able to identify situations that can compromise personal safety as well as how to minimise the risks to self in the workplace. Learners will also be able to identify types of harm and strategies to use in physical intervention situations.

Assessment and Qualification:

Learners will be assessed using 2 multiple choice exams. The first of which has a pass mark of 70% and the second with a pass mark of 69%.

Upon successful completion of the course candidates will receive a Level 2 Award for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry Top-Up.

How long this course is:

This course has a duration of 1 day of learning with the tutor from 9 am to 6 pm.

There are a total of 3 hours in which candidates will work on self-study materials and e-learning units alone using course handbooks and the websites provided.
